I think the newfangled next-gen could still stand to learn a few things from the Xbox workhorse - even if this is the platform's last triple-A title. This full game walkthrough for Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent is currently in progress.
And saving $20 isn't too bad either, though I do miss achievements. The current-gen games have much better multiplayer (split-screen co-op is huge to me), and the single-player is still pretty darn good despite the technological limitations. Putting everything into a mixing pot - technology, price, single/multiplayer components - I actually hold the Xbox Splinter Cell Double Agent in the highest regard of all the versions. Michael Ironside and Don "Lambert" Jordan turn in great performances yet again. I couldn't help but feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when the dramatic music swept in after I engaged an enemy. Double Agent has some decent audio and voiceovers. If I hadn't played the gussied-up 360 version, I'd still think these visuals were the bee's knees.
Real-time cutscenes look a little rough, but the CG ones do the job. Textures also show plenty of bump-mapping. It's great at handling the light variations, and characters look and move well. Graphically, the Xbox version holds up pretty well. On the flip side, the Xbox version now supports three-on-three play, which definitely makes a difference. All, which is pretty self-explanatory, though the relatively standard Team Hack is always a good time.
The number of game modes on both PS2 and Xbox versions dwarfs the 360's scant choices as well as Chaos Theory, though there are actually two exclusive match types on PlayStation 2 (survival and disk hunt). spy - which is fine by me as the mercenaries were the weak link.
